What does it mean to create a space where Black joy, creativity, imagination, and community can thrive? On this episode of The Day With Trae, host Trae Holiday sits down with J. Rycheal Lester-Peters, interim marketing director for LANGSTON, to talk about the upcoming Seattle Black Nerd Festival.

Taking place August 28–30, the Seattle Black Nerd Festival is designed as an intentional space for Black creativity, connection, and self-expression. The festival celebrates the many ways people can be a “nerd” while creating a judgment-free environment where Black imagination can take center stage.

The festival lineup features an exciting mix of music, film, Afrofuturism, spirituality, sound healing, panels, and community experiences, including film screenings featuring filmmaker Boots Riley.

In this conversation, Lester-Peters shares how LANGSTON is helping strengthen the cultural landscape of Seattle’s Central District and why events like the Seattle Black Nerd Festival matter for representation, creativity, and community engagement.
